Casting a Coin

Mold Making

I decided to start with sand casting for its simplicity, and because of that, I was also able to try and cast multiple things at once with relative ease.

I dug out channels between the molds after removing the pieces to allow the liquid aluminum to flow freely within the mold. Shortly after securing both halves of the mold together, I began to melt the aluminum for the cast.

After quickly melting the aluminum, I poured it into the mold and waited patiently for the results.

I am quite happy with how it turned out as my first real attempt at sand casting, but I would love to improve on it. Therefore, this project isn’t done yet! I am now working on making a more precise mold to capture the detail better, and this post will be edited upon completion!
